Full-Time Deputy Sheriff

The Northumberland County Sheriff’s Office is now accepting applications for the position of Deputy Sheriff. Duties will include law enforcement, service of criminal, and civil processes, and court operations.

      Applicants must:

- Be at least 21 years of age, possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving history

-Have a minimum education of high school diploma or equivalent

-Be able to pass a physical agility test

-Be able to pass a written examination

-Have the desire to help and be part of a tight-knit rural community

-Be service minded

-Be willing to work shift work including nights and weekends

A criminal history will be obtained for each applicant. Prior law enforcement experience is preferred but not required.

You will be paid during your academy training.

Take-home cars are available for those living within 10 miles of a Northumberland County line and on the Northern Neck peninsula.
